In line with the goals set in the National Hydrogen Strategy (NWS), hydrogen infrastructure in Germany needs to be rapidly expanded. In October 2024, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) approved plans for a core network of 9,040 km with total investment costs of €18.9 billion and the potential to transport up to 278 TWh of energy annually. This session will provide insights into the political, technical, and financial parameters of the H2-Core Network and also touch on the role of local gas transmission operators and port authorities for its integration in Germany's broader hydrogen infrastructure.
This event is part of the US-Germany Climate and Energy Partnership, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the U.S. Department of Energy.
