The GHC’s Consumer Education website is intended to provide objective, science-based information for anyone interested in learning more about how green hydrogen is a game-changer in the fight for our planet.
The urgency to fight climate change and speed a clean, just energy transition has never been greater. We need to deploy every available tool to combat this crisis and green hydrogen is a key component in our deep decarbonization toolkit.
Produced from renewable resources – wind, solar, water, and organic waste, with environmental integrity – green hydrogen allows us to:
Combat climate change,
Reduce our reliance on fossil fuels,
Increase energy independence,
Accelerate a clean energy transition, and
Maintain and create high-quality, family-sustaining jobs and an affordable clean energy future for all.
While green hydrogen is drawing an increasing amount of interest from policymakers and the clean energy industry, much work remains to be done – including ensuring that the public understands the value embedded in this clean, flexible fuel and how it is safely produced, transported, stored, and used.
The GHC’s Consumer Education initiative aims to provide accessible, credibly sourced information to the public about the benefits of green hydrogen and to dispel misconceptions. A new study conducted by the Energy Futures Initiative found that when people understand the range of benefits green hydrogen delivers, they are more likely to support its development and deployment.
“EFI’s upcoming work on building strong community engagement in clean hydrogen shows the value of information sharing, education, and collaboration among Tribal, Labor, EJ, and Disadvantaged Communities. Our survey of ~5,000 key community members shows overwhelming support for clean hydrogen, driven by their views of hydrogen as a job creator and decarbonization tool. A large number of respondents who are still undecided on hydrogen make clear that safety and environmental protections are key and that engagement methods that emphasize community empowerment with binding agreements can be gamechangers.”
The GHC’s Consumer Education campaign aims to steer the national movement by dispelling misconceptions and building support by activating new local, state, and national green hydrogen supporters and champions. We hope that these efforts will help break down myths and galvanize support for a clean and just energy future.
Introducing the Consumer Education Website
To support continued education and policy and market development for green hydrogen, the GHC launched gh2forclimate.org which highlights green hydrogen value streams with objective, accessible content that seeks to build trust and alignment.
