The Green Hydrogen Coalition (GHC) submitted comments in support of the Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to address greenhouse gas emissions from the electric generation sector. In its comments, the GHC endorsed hydrogen as a “best source of emission reduction” for fossil fuel-fired electric generation units to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and champions hydrogen co-firing, targeting a combustion rate of 96% hydrogen by 2038 with adaptable goals.

“The GHC has offered the EPA options to strengthen their draft rules in ways that will enable the clean hydrogen economy to achieve market lift-off, ensure climate integrity, and benefit communities,” GHC Founder and President Janice Lin said.

Regulatory flexibility is paramount, and the GHC encouraged EPA to adopt compliance approaches for power plant operators that will ensure grid stability.

“Today’s hydrogen economy is nascent, and our recommendations to EPA will help ensure that decarbonization is scaling up alongside the clean hydrogen market, thereby ensuring, and ultimately increasing, grid reliability,” Nicholas Connell, GHC Interim Executive Director, stated.
