Announcement | Update from GHC Board Chair Jonathan Birdsong
December 2, 2024
Dear Green Hydrogen Coalition (GHC) Supporters,
With the long-awaited ruling of the final 45V tax credit due by the end of year, the GHC is ready to continue its path forward alongside its diverse community of supporters and partners to unlock renewable hydrogen’s full potential and decarbonize our nation’s energy sector. As we continue GHC’s mission into 2025 and beyond, I am pleased to announce on behalf of the GHC Board of Directors several exciting new organizational updates.
GHC Founder and President Janice Lin has been appointed as the Interim Executive Director (IED). Carl Stills has relinquished his role as IED to join our esteemed board of directors alongside myself, Marty Adams, Paul Browning, Gregory DePasquale, Thierry Lepercq, Janice Lin, Don Liddell, Lacy McManus, Grace Tsai, and Denita Willoughby. We look forward to working with Carl in this new capacity as a board member and thank him for his service as IED.
“It has been a pleasure to witness the growth and impact of the GHC over the last five years, starting from our inaugural meeting at the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) in 2019,” said Carl Stills. “I am proud to continue supporting and serving the GHC as its newest board member, particularly in accelerating our green hydrogen economy for power sector applications. California possesses tremendous renewable resources that can be converted to renewable hydrogen for multisectoral decarbonization.”
About Carl Stills
Carl brings over 40 years of expertise in the utility industry, specifically in project management, policy, advocacy, and development. Before joining GHC, Carl was Vice President of Imperial Valley Development & Storage Integration of Avantus, where he oversaw solar development within California’s Imperial Valley and worked closely with the energy storage team to develop cohesive strategies for integrating solar-plus-storage into utility operations. He also has experience managing energy for California’s sixth-largest utility, the Imperial Irrigation District, where he served as Energy Manager and Portfolio Management Officer. During this tenure, Carl initiated strategic project management, implemented processes that saved hundreds of millions in costs, and oversaw the implementation of battery storage projects.
Please Welcome Tim Kamermayer
I am delighted to announce that Tim Kamermayer has joined GHC as our Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs. With nearly two decades of experience in California politics, Tim brings a wealth of expertise to our team. For the past five years, he served as the Lead Legislative Affairs Representative at the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), where he led the government affairs team, coordinated with the transmission and policy departments, managed legislative communications, and cultivated relationships with key stakeholders and consultants. A former National Debate Champion, Tim earned his law degree from McGeorge School of Law. Tim’s background in legislation, public speaking, regulatory analysis, labor, and energy markets will make him a perfect fit for helping shape and guide hydrogen policy at GHC.
“I am thrilled to join GHC as the Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs,” said Tim Kamermayer. “GHC’s commitment to advancing green hydrogen aligns perfectly with my passion for shaping energy policy that drives sustainable change. I look forward to leveraging my experiences to help establish a regulatory framework that enables the affordable and necessary scaling of hydrogen in California and beyond. Together with the talented team at GHC, I am excited to contribute to a cleaner, more resilient energy future.”
Both Janice and Tim will be attending Reuters’ Hydrogen North America in Houston, Texas, on December 4-5, where Janice will be speaking on the panel, “Aligning Your Project with Ammonia Customers.” If you plan to attend this event, it will be a great opportunity to meet in person.
With these exciting new updates, GHC is poised to deliver on its 2025 strategic priorities recently approved by the Board. Please feel free to reach out with any questions to info@ghcoalition.org.
With Gratitude,
