Green Hydrogen’s Key Role in Heavy-Industry

The Carolinas is home to many industries that are foundational to our nation’s growth – from steel, to industrial manufacturing, to paper mills – all supported by abundant existing infrastructure and a skilled workforce. As the United States ramps up “Made-in-America” efforts to drive domestic economic growth and reduce supply chain dependencies, low-cost green hydrogen will be a key resource to help industrial sectors scale sustainably. The Carolinas also has two deep water maritime sea ports – Wilmington and Charleston – and multiple international airports, which have the potential to drive significant demand from hard-to-electrify mobility applications.

Together, these abundant end uses of mass-scale green hydrogen make North and South Carolina an excellent location for a scaled green hydrogen hub.
